Creator Description

Ancient in origin, dating back 1,400 years to Japan's Kofun period, the art of shippō, or cloisonné, was introduced from the continent. It evolved uniquely in Japan, giving rise to auspicious and traditional patterns as well as innovative techniques. Over the centuries, from nobility to samurai to the modern era, the essence of this cultural craft has been passed down to contemporary cloisonné artisans. Among them, one name stands out for exceptional skill and creative expression – Takayoshi Yamamoto.

Takayoshi Yamamoto is known for his remarkable technique in creating cloisonné pieces using incredibly fine pure gold and silver, intricately etched with designs rooted in Japanese culture. His meticulous metalwork, where even a single mistake is unforgivable, is carried out with unwavering precision and a quiet intensity that commands respect. The numerous patterns he brings to life on his artworks not only represent the imaginative designs of bygone artists but also embody a transcendent aesthetic that has been passed down through the ages to the present day, unified with his deep reservoir of imagination. His ultimate masterpiece, an amalgamation of this aesthetic and his innermost imaginings, is a celestial planetarium.
